GAN 356i Carry as a Speedcube
At Cuboss, we love speedcubes (as fast Rubik’s cubes are usually called). Thus, we’ll start with a look at the cube itself and the hardware.
First of all, GAN undoubtedly makes the best smart cube when it comes to the actual performance of the cube. If you already own a speedcube from GAN, you will recognize the feeling: It is soft, easy to turn and uses GAN’s patented Honeycomb surfaces. The cube is also magnetized, which means that small strong magnets inside the pieces of the cube help you to pull the layers in place and provide a very good stability in the puzzle.
The cube is adjustable and it comes with a new type of GES and extra springs for those who want to adjust the cube. Of course, it comes with instructions on how to adjust it if there is something you’d like to try. If you are a beginner, you do not have to worry – the cube performs really well right out of the box and you do not have to make any adjustments if you do not wish to. The cube also comes with a solution manual, a plastic box to store the cube in, a bag to store the cube in and a trading card.
GAN 356i Carry as Smart cube
Something that stands out with the GAN 356i Carry compared to other smart cubes is that it does not come with a charger. Instead, it has a battery with a very long battery life of about 280 hours, which corresponds to 45 minutes of use per day for an entire year. When the battery is exhausted, simply replace it. The cube uses a CR1632 battery.
The app used for the cube is called Cube Station and can be downloaded for free for Android and iOS. The app and instructions are available in English and Chinese. We also want to mention that the app is not very intuitive and it can be a bit cumbersome to get started. But once you’ve got things going, it’s a very good smart cube. Even if you solve the Rubik’s cube in less than 10 seconds, you can count on the virtual cube always keeping up. This in combination with the GAN 356i Carry being good speedcube means that it is a better choice than other smart cubes when it comes to speedsolving. You can also connect the cube to the GAN robot which with the help of the app can solve your cube for you! The GAN 356i Carry can also be connected to the GAN smart timer.

The app is capable, the cube is mostly nice to use in my limited experience, but my God, the center caps it comes with. Just so that the cube can be inserted into a robot solver, it becomes objectively worse for humans to solve as the corners hook into the small indentations in the caps the robot is to grip.

Glad you got smart cubes in the range. Anyone who does not have a smart cube should get one! This is also the best on the market I have tested. I have Giiker, GAN356I and gocube. The app leaves a bit to be desired, but it works well when you figure out how it works. There are also other apps that work with the cube that are better, e.g. cubeast.An obvious purchase for anyone who likes to compete in speedcubing.
