The layers on a QiYi QiMing Plus Pyraminx (27.5 cm) slide easily against each other and always end up in exactly the right position after each move thanks to the nifty mechanism with so-called ‘ball bearings’. These mean that each piece has a small metal ball that slides against the plastic during each move. When the turn is complete, the metal ball slides into a small hole in the center of each piece, causing them to stick there. Given that it then requires a bit of extra force to start the next move (to move the metal ball out of the pit) you won’t make accidental turns when solving the puzzle – which means you’ll get fewer lock-ups. This system applies to both the body of the Pyraminx, as well as the tips that sit at the far end of the puzzle.
