The YJ MGC3 Beta 3×3 is YJ’s latest update to their flagship level puzzle series. The cube comes in three affordable variants with the latest technology:
- Standard – The standard variant, magnetic and with a dual adjustment system.
- Ball Core UV – Magnetic core for increased stability and UV coating for a scratch-resistant and shiny look.
- Maglev + Ball Core UV – In addition to the magnetic core and UV coating, this one also has repelling ring magnets instead of springs in the core, which makes the cube even faster.
The YJ MGC3 Beta 3×3 is a release intended to compete in the borderland between the budget and mid-range of speedcubes. The cube has a fast, crispy and slightly blocky feel. The two slightly more expensive variants stand out by including replaceable torpedoes under the edge pieces, which allows you to choose whether you want repelling edge magnets in the cube for further enhanced magnetic feel. Since the stronger torpedoes are pre-installed, this means that you can make the magnetic strength weaker through this change.

When I got this cube, I was expcting a lot and even had hopes for it to become my main cube. Unfortunately, these hopes were quickly gone. Even though you can adjust this cube in many different settings, there are none that are usable in competition for me. The cube performs best on pretty loose tensions but then it corner twists like crazy and I even got some pops. If you tighten it, the corner twisting issue will simply not go away. I have never had a cube that could corner twist so easily on fairly tight tensions. If you want to eliminate corner twists, you have to tension this cube like a literal brick and then the performance gets terrible. On all tensions there is also a problem with the corner caps popping off while solving. Finally, the quality control is really bad and I had a corner magnet sticking out of the piece right out of the box which caused crazy lockups. Another issue is that the ball core spring version has a some really annoying spring noise that doesn‘t even go away after lubing the spring. However the cube is not all bad. On loose tensions, the performance is quite decent and the price is actually cheap for what you get. It is clearly YJ‘s best 3x3 ever but I think there is still some work to be done before they can compete with the best cubes out these. I recommend basically every flagship cube like the Weilong V10, the Tornado V4 or the Huameng TG over this and in the price range of that cube I would recommend a Hudong or an Rs3M v5 over this cube. Because of the issues I talked about, I don‘t think, it is a main speedcube for many world class cubers. I am actually a bit disappointed.
