In the box of your ESTAR Clock comes a lot of extra accessories that we have not previously seen in puzzles of this type: Two extra center dials (one black and one white), a screwdriver, ten extra magnets and a manual. If you are happy with the performance straight out of the box, you do not need to bother with the following details, but if you like to tinker with Clocks or want to optimize the performance, you will first need to use the included screwdriver to loosen the four screws that hold the outer shell together. If you then open the shell, the interior of the puzzle is revealed, with its center clock and four edge clocks on each side as well as four corner clocks and pins that are shared between both sides. The first and most important step in optimizing the puzzle’s performance is to lubricate the contact surfaces between these parts and the black / white shell with a thin layer of silicone-based lubricant – it can be smart to dab a little lubricant and then spread it out with a paper towel.
The ESTAR Clock is the first Clock on the market where you have the option to adjust its magnetic strength! The manual describes four different possible layouts, where the medium-strong one is pre-installed in the puzzle. To switch to the weaker layout, you replace the center clock on each side with the ones that come in the box since these have four magnets per center instead of six. If you want to increase the magnetic strength instead, two different layouts are suggested. One is based on adding two of the included extra magnets into the center clock on each side. The other design is based on adding an extra magnet into each edge clock on both sides of the puzzle. Considering that the puzzle comes with ten extra magnets however, it is entirely possible to use your creativity and come up with your own favorite design for the magnetic strength.
Don’t think that the innovations stop there, though! To name a few more:
- Friction-reducing “micro-floating construction” and finely tuned internal gears for maximum speed.
- Flat base – The puzzle has a slightly flattened part at the bottom of the four edges edges, which means that it stands firmly on the table and does not roll around.
- Appearance – The magnets have the same polarity on both sides, which means that you can swap the black and white inner parts if you want to adjust the appearance of the puzzle.
- Teflon rings around the puzzle’s pins reduce friction and wear, and have a self-lubricating effect.
