Easy 2 Look PLL Algorithms

2-look-pll-corners-headlights

4 Look Last Layer is a simple yet effective way to solve the last layer of a 3×3. You only need 16 algorithms in total, divided into ten for the 2 Look OLL step and six for the 2 Look PLL step. Since the number of algs needed for 2 Look PLL is lower and the potential time saved is greater, this is the recommended place to start learning 4LLL algs.

FAQ

The last layer is divided into four distinct parts, where you for each step learn to recognize a pattern and which moves are needed to solve each pattern.

2 Look OLL (Orientation of Last Layer)

First look: There are three different cases for orienting the upper layer cross.
Second look: 2 Look OLL is finished by solving one out of seven different cases for orienting the corners of the last layer, resulting in the top face sharing the single upper face color (for example yellow).

2 Look PLL (Permutation of Last Layer)

First look: For permuting (moving around) of the pieces of the top layer, the first step is solving all corners for which there are only two cases to learn.
Second look:  The solve is finished by using one out of four different cases for solving only the edges of the top layer.

It is highly recommended to learn all cases. While we have ordered them in the order we recommend learning them in to maximize your gains, the number of algs is rather low and the algs are not too complicated, meaning it is definitely worthwhile learning all of them so you can actually solve the top layer in “4 looks” (4 algorithms).

Make sure to brush up on your cube notation knowledge if there is a move that you don’t understand how to perform. If you struggle to execute or finger trick some of these moves, we highly recommend checking out our basic finger trick guide!

Yes! To solve the 2 Look PLL part of 4LLL, you’ll have to learn six out of the 21 cases that will be required to learn full PLL in the future. These algs are picked with care so that you won’t even have to update these algs to faster ones in the future.
