GAN 13 M MagLev
The GAN 13 M MagLev comes in a stunning dark blue box with orange details. In it, there are a lot of interesting tools and accessories. The cube itself comes in a white inner box with a smart clicking mechanism. In the side of this white box is a small metal tool you can use to adjust how the cube should feel and how tightly it should be screwed down. In addition to that, a blue cube bag is included to protect the cube from scratches as well as a collector’s card and pamphlet with instructions.
Center Travel
How much the centers can move up and down during solves is called “center travel”. This affects how well the GAN 13 M MagLev can cut corners, as well as how resistant the puzzle should be against pops. By lifting the plastic caps over the center pieces, you can set the cube’s “center travel” in six levels. You do this by inserting the metal tool into one of the three inner knobs in the light blue part of the center piece and then turning clockwise. You will hear a click for each step you pass, with 1 being the tightest and 6 being the loosest setting. You can see which setting you are currently on by comparing the inner number with one of the knobs in the ring.
Tension
You can also easily adjust how your GAN 13 M MagLev should feel during solves (“tension”) without having to set the cube to a very loose “center travel” setting. You do this by placing the metal tool between the lower teeth of the light blue gear, then turning clockwise. Clicks are heard here as well, and you can see your current setting by comparing it with the small white plastic triangle that sits in the corner of the center piece itself. When setting the cube’s “tension”, 6 is the strongest setting and 1 is the weakest setting. The lower the number you set your “tension” to, the faster and looser your GAN 13 M MagLev will feel.
Magnet Strength
Finally, it is also possible to adjust how strong the magnetic force between the core and the corners should be. This is one of the GAN 13 M MagLev’s smartest features, as in this way you only need to change the magnet strength eight times (once per corner). On most of the competitors, instead, 24 adjustments (twice per edge) are required to change magnet strength. The actual adjustment is done by turning the D-layer half a turn, inserting the metal tool into the slot, and carefully turning the white wheel by pushing the tool away from you. This causes the magnetic rod under the base of the corner to be pulled further away from the inner core magnets and the magnetic strength decreases. Here, 1 is the weakest magnetic strength and 6 is the strongest magnetic strength.
