With the MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3, the very exciting collaboration between MoYu and the (at the time of writing) current world record holder in 3×3, Yusheng Du, is finally released. Just like the MoYu Super RS3M, the cube comes in the three versions of Standard, MagLev and Ball Core. In addition to that however, the MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 now also comes in a new Magic Clothes version. It has a protective varnish against scratches like the UV coating that many of GANs latest flagship puzzles has.
- Standard Magnetic – The standard variant, with magnets in the pieces that hold all layers in place during solves.
- MagLev Magnetic – Magnetic levitation instead of screws and springs. Makes the cube quieter and faster.
- Ball Core (MagLev + Magnetic Core) – In addition to MagLev, this also has a magnetic core (corner to core magnets).
- Magic Clothes (UV coating, Ball Core) – On top of the magnetic core, this also has a shiny protective layer on the outside of the cube.
- 20 Magnet Ball Core UV (UV coating, Ball Core with 20 magnets) – Compared to the variant above, this one has 20 magnets in the core instead of 8, for a more even magnetic feel.
MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3
The MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 has many similarities with MoYu’s relatively recent release MoYu Super RS3M. The cube comes in the same three different models as the Super RS3M (at least before the upcoming fourth version “Magic Clothes” is released). In addition, the cubes have the same simple, efficient and user-friendly adjustment system.
Once you get the cube in your hand, however, the slightly more luxurious feel of the MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 begins to emerge. First, the box and unboxing experience is more professional and stylish on your YS3M, and the box also contains more accessories. The plastic is also a little more robust on a YS3M and the layers slide incredibly nicely against each other. This, in combination with the leaf-shaped patterns found on the plastic of the pieces, means that the puzzle responds very well to different types of lubricants and can be really fast and good without you having to be an expert at setting up cubes. Finally, the MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 is really good at corner cutting, making the puzzle an affordable cube that is easy to recommend to anyone.
MagLev
In addition to the magnets between edges and corners present on all versions, MagLev means that the usual suspension system with metal springs has been replaced with two repelling ring magnets. One magnet thus levitates over the other magnet and provides a springy effect, which means that you avoid the friction between springs and washers and the cube becomes both faster and quieter.
MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 Ball Core
The third version has what MoYu calls a Ball Core. There is a ball around the core where they’ve attached eight magnets facing the corner pieces. At the bottom of the corner pieces there are also magnets aligned with the magnets in the core. This provides two different functions. First, the cube gets a slightly stronger magnetic feel. It also becomes somewhat more stable. Then you actually get a bit of a repelling effect that causes the magnets to slide a bit as you start to approach the end of your move. So you get a push in the move and the layer settles into place. This is the same system used in e.g. GAN 11, 12 and 13.
MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 Magic Clothes
This cube is the latest addition to the different variants that the MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 comes in. The cube retains exactly the same performance and functionality that the Ball Core version has. In addition to that, however, the surface has been coated with a protective varnish, which MoYu / HuaMeng calls “Magic Clothes”. In addition to giving the cube a more luxurious and shiny appearance, it also protects against scratches and general wear and tear. It is MoYu / HuaMeng’s own version of the UV coating that many of GAN’s latest flagships come with and is recommended if you want to give your cube that little extra touch.
MoYu HuaMeng YS3M 3×3 20 Magnet Ball Core UV
In addition to everything that was described in the variant above, this one has 20 magnets in the core instead of 8. This makes the magnetic feeling more even while turning, when all the magnetic attraction of the core is distributed on more than twice as many points, which according to many makes the cube more comfortable to handle.
